Murphy's tasteful and jaw-dropping entrees are proof that there is talent in the kitchen. Head chef Shawn Stoyer started out cooking in restaurants through high school. Upon completing education at a culinary school in Portland, Shawn took a job in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He developed a sense for Southwestern cooking, contributing hispanic and native American influences to Murphy's menu. Later, Shawn worked in New Orleans, training with top chefs in the area's most prestigious restaurants. With his newly acquired skills and flavors, Shawn left the Big Easy for the Pacific Northwest where he worked in Seattle and Bellevue, Washington. His love of Oregon and ambition to raise his family led him to the Willamette Valley, where he began work as Murphy's head chef. Owner Jeb Dunlap brings his Hawaiian roots to the table, incorporating Pan-Asian culture into the menu. He also worked as a chef for many summers in Ketchikan, Alaska and many Caribbean winters in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands. Together, Shawn and Jeb have created a menu that puts a spin on classic American cuisine.

I was in Corvallis for Oregon State University's "Mom's Weekend". I accompanied my daughter to several restaurants while I was out visiting her. I have been in the restaurant business for many years in the past and I know a great place when I see it! Murphy's Restaurant and Lounge was such an unexpected delight. It looked like a nice "beer and a burger" place, yet the menu was top-notch, the food was to die for, and the service was excellent. We had such a pleasant experience that I felt I should write to the local paper. (More...)
